童星赖慕贤、麦炳均和夏五群从四百名应征者中脱颖而出, 演出本片. 孤儿嘉嘉由小姨李二姐抚养至八岁, 然后送交祖父虎大爷照顾. 祖孙俩相依为命, 嘉每天与好友小牛上山牧羊. 讵料二姐突然到来, 把嘉带走卖与郭家为婢, 陪伴残疾的郭家小姐安妮. 安妮姑姑咏芬苛待嘉, 更要求大哥秋明将嘉送走. 嘉思念祖父成病, 明无奈偕安妮送嘉回祖父家. 安妮喜欢当地清幽的环境, 留下与嘉作伴. 一日, 小牛无意中踢毁安妮的轮椅, 安妮爬行挣扎间, 双腿竟能站立. 明感激嘉, 欲赠金为报, 遭嘉婉拒. 嘉决定留下与祖父享乡居之乐, 与安妮父女依依道别.
After the death of both her parents, an adolescent girl is sent away to be under the care of her cantankerous grandfather, the terror of his village.
