学校每年都会举灯火节，孩子们依次排序站在一个大锅炉前，每个人都在那焚烧书本。这个老校长已经阻止不了这宗行为。11岁的亚历山德丽亚，她拒绝参加这个活动，从锅炉那跑走了。
A fire-lit ritual in the school. Children stand in line before a great furnace. They are burning books. The old headmaster is too weary to resist. Alexandria, an 11 year old girl, will not join in. She runs away from the furnace. The headmaster tries to protect her. He tells her a story, an impossible tale about a chimney sweep and the Library of Burned Books. Alexandria listens.
